NOAH ABRAHAMS - MANUAL PHYSICAL THERAPY, VERTIGO MANAGEMENT
Dr. Noah Abrahams spent his early years both in California and abroad in Tokyo. As an avid athlete, he excelled at multiple sports, but basketball was his drive. Attending a storied basketball program, such as Indiana University, was a dream come true. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Management and a minor in Kinesiology, he focused on diversifying his life experience while traveling the country.
Dr. Abrahams earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy Degree from A.T. Still University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Mesa, Arizona. He pursues continuing education regularly and has taught many in-services at a local Tucson hospital. He also continues to study with manual therapy experts in Australia and therapeutic exercise experts in Tempe, Arizona. Formerly, he was involved in the Emergency Department at St Joseph’s Hospital as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and continues to spearhead new treatment strategies for physical therapists.
Dr. Abrahams enjoys all fitness activities, but specifically weight training, hiking, and cycling. He has lived overseas, as well as in Boston and Chicago, and has traveled to over 30 countries.
PHILIP PAUL TYGIEL - PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Phil has been in private practice in Tucson for forty years specializing in orthopedic manual physical therapy. He is a graduate of New York University School of Physical Therapy and has his certification in manual therapy from University of St. Augustine. He is a past president of the Arizona Physical Therapy Association and in 1995 was named Arizona Physical Therapy Association’s outstanding physical therapist of the year. In 2012 he was awarded the Lucy Blair Service Award by the American Physical Therapy Association and the Pauline Wampler Award by the Arizona Physical Therapy Association. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
LORA AMELUNKE - PT-BALANCE AND VERTIGO MANAGEMENT
Lora Amelunke, PT, Graduated in 1988 from the University of Louisville. Her practice has developed in a variety of settings. She has had the privilege of being mentored and mentoring others throughout her career. She has practiced in 3 states and held a supervisory position with Kaiser Permanente at one of their largest facilities in Northern California prior to moving to Tucson in 1998. Lora has devoted much of her career to PT education and has administered clinical education in her previous settings. Her areas of practice have included a base of acute care and in-patient sub-acute rehabilitation, Outpatient Orthopedic work with considerable continuing education, and study, as well as home health and geriatrics. Currently, Lora is practicing and studying vestibular disorders and treating issues common to the Geriatric population, including balance, gait, community safety, and falls. She focuses on providing Physical Therapy in a caring atmosphere.
DR. CARA PAYNE - PT, DPT
Dr. Cara Payne, PT, DPT is the newest clinician member of our wonderful physical therapy team. Cara is an avid triathlete, mother, wife and great clinician. She originates from San Diego, but has lived in Washington, practiced physical therapy in New Zealand (on Rugby Players) and is currently developing a Triathlete training company called Forever Fit. Cara has advanced certifications in multiple types of Manual Therapy and can even offer running/cycling assessments.
MARK HOLLEY - PT, DPT
Mark is a residency-trained orthopedic physical therapist. He specializes in orthopedic injuries, back and neck pain, pre and post surgical rehabilitation.
Dr. Holley completed a orthopedic physical therapy residency program at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Holley earned his doctorate in physical therapy from A. T. Still University in Mesa, AZ. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. Since then, he has made Tucson his home, leading classes in balance and falls prevention at community senior centers and working with in patient and out patient physical therapy clinics.
When he isn’t working with patients, he enjoys mountain and road biking, hiking, yoga, snowboarding and running. He also loves collecting vinyl records and caring for a collection of desert plants at home.
LOGANN BERG - PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
Logann Berg has lived in Tucson since she was 7 and has loved every minute of it. She grew up doing competitive gymnastics and dance which led to her finding her passion in Physical Therapy. She graduated from University High School and went on to pursue her passion at Pima Medical Institute. She is now a state certified Physical Therapist Assistant and could not be happier! In her free time, Logann enjoys hiking, running, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
AMY SHERWOOD - MARKETING DIRECTOR & PHYSICIAN LIAISON
Amy comes to us with a background in public relations and business development.
She has worked many years in health care; in case management as well as other roles.
Amy has been a resident of southern Arizona for over 15 years and is an active advocate for veterans.
She is also vice president of the Pima County Human Rights Committee. She is overseen at home by her cats, pit bulls, and chihuahua.
CHRIS TYRA-SANCHEZ - FRONT OFFICE STAFF
What can we say about Chris? She makes this place run. She moved here from Hammond, Indiana when she was 4. She has been a ‘Tucsonan’ ever since and loves it. She graduated from Santa Rita High School and attended Pima Community College. She is married and has a 16 year old daughter who will be graduating high school this year.
Chris enjoys shopping, feasting and traveling with her family. She has been the Office Manager at our clinic for the last 23 years, and will be here for no less than 23 more.
GLORIA WEDDINGFELD - FRONT OFFICE STAFF
Gloria has been working in our clinic for the last 9 years. She is our wonderful Front Desk Manager and will usually be the first face you see when you arrive at our clinic. She was born in Mexico and moved to the United States when she married her husband. Gloria and her husband have been married for 32 years and have a 26 year old son.
Gloria had a longstanding Banking career before getting involved in Physical Therapy. She really enjoys hiking in Sabino Canyon, both on her own and with her family. She enjoys watching movies and spending time with her family.
ANGELA HAWKINS - GYM TEAM
Angela is 35 years old and has a Bachelors of Science degree focusing on Physical Therapy. She has worked at our clinic for 5 years (and counting) focusing on the exercise physiology component.
She loves corrective exercise and making sure the clients/patients are getting the most out of their appointment.
On a personal note, she loves to eat, shop and wear bright colors.
SARAH STRICKER - GYM TEAM
Sarah is a U of A senior studying psychology, physiology and public health. Started shadowing physical therapy in 2012. Volunteered 2 years in outpatient clinics, and inpatient rehab centers. She was the physical therapy advisor for the physical, occupational and speech therapy club at U of A and will be applying for PT graduate school this year.
She is an an avid yogi, sand volleyball player and Tucson local. Sarah loves working with our wonderful patients at Tygiel and the amazing staff. There’s always something to learn and progress to be made.
GERARDO LLAMAS JR. - PHYSICAL THERAPY AIDES
Bilingual Spanish-English and is a licensed LNA (Licensed nursing assistant).
He is CPR certified and has worked with patients in a variety of high acuity settings.
He is attuned to patient needs and is a great resource for sports related information!
LYLA SISSON - MASSAGE THERAPIST
Lyla graduated from Carrington College in 2014 as a Physical Therapy Technician. She became intrigued with all the modalities of massage therapy, and went on to study massage therapy at the Steiner Cortiva institute. She graduated in April of 2015 and received her Massage License in May. Lyla likes to incorporate relaxation massage with deep tissue and myofascial release techniques.
Utilizing different techniques makes for a relaxing and effective massage in relieving tight muscles from everyday use or injuries from overuse. Lyla loves what she does, and finds fulfillment in knowing she is helping people.
